How do I generate and use an SSH key?
Open Settings or when editing a server, choose Authentication → Public Key. You can generate a modern Ed25519 or ECDSA P-256 key pair directly in NexusTerm. Once generated, tap Copy Public Key and add it to your server's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file.
Where are my passwords and private keys stored?
All sensitive credentials (passwords, private keys, API tokens) are encrypted and stored directly within your device's Apple Keychain using hardware-backed Secure Enclave protection. They never sync to third-party cloud servers.
How do I enable the AI Command Assistant?
NexusTerm uses a Bring-Your-Own-Key (BYOK) model to respect your privacy and give you full control. Go to Settings → AI Assistant, enter your free or paid API key for Google Gemini or OpenAI, and tap Test Key to verify connectivity. Once configured, you can tap any terminal line or launch the AI assistant to troubleshoot errors or draft commands.
How does the dual-pane SFTP transfer work?
When connected to an active SSH session, tap the SFTP icon in the toolbar. The left pane shows your remote server filesystem, and the right pane shows your local device storage. Tap the download icon next to any remote file to transfer it locally, or tap the upload button to send a local file to the server.
What is "Strict Host Key Checking (TOFU)"?
NexusTerm implements Trust-On-First-Use (TOFU). The first time you connect to a server, NexusTerm records its host fingerprint. If the server fingerprint ever changes unexpectedly, NexusTerm warns you to protect you against man-in-the-middle attacks.
Does NexusTerm support corporate gateways / FortiClient ZTNA?
Yes! In the server editor, enable FortiClient ZTNA and select either Transparent Mode or Loopback Proxy to route SSH sessions seamlessly through enterprise zero-trust proxies.
What should I do if a connection times out?
Ensure that your server's firewall or security group allows inbound TCP traffic on your specified port (default port 22). If connecting over cellular data, make sure cellular permissions are enabled for NexusTerm in iOS Settings.
