Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any subscriptions or recurring fees?
No. ReceiptMate does not have any subscriptions, recurring monthly charges, or locked paywalls. You will never be billed on a recurring basis.
How does receipt scanning and text recognition work?
ReceiptMate uses Apple's native Vision framework to perform high-speed Optical Character Recognition (OCR) directly on your device. When scanning:
- Ensure good lighting and hold your camera flat above the receipt.
- Avoid harsh glare or crumpled surfaces for best recognition.
- ReceiptMate will automatically extract the merchant name, total amount, and date. You can review and adjust any field before saving.
How do return window alerts and warranty tracking work?
When adding or editing a receipt, you can set a return window (e.g., 14, 30, or 60 days) and a manufacturer warranty period (e.g., 12 or 24 months):
- Upcoming Returns: Check the "Upcoming Returns" view for a color-coded countdown showing active, ending soon, or overdue returns.
- Return Reminders: Enable Settings → Return & Warranty Reminders to receive local notifications on your iPhone before return periods close.
- Warranty Hub: Keep serial numbers, model numbers, and manufacturer support URLs organized in one place for future service claims.
How do I enable Face ID / Touch ID protection?
To lock ReceiptMate behind biometric authentication:
- Open ReceiptMate and navigate to Settings.
- Toggle on Require Face ID / Passcode.
- Whenever the app returns from the background or is launched fresh, iOS will prompt you to unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
How do I back up and restore my receipts?
Because ReceiptMate does not upload your receipts to third-party cloud servers, backups are managed under your control:
- Export Backup: In Settings → Data Storage & Backup, tap Export Database Backup to save your
receipts.jsonfile to the Files app, iCloud Drive, or transfer via AirDrop. - Restore Backup: Tap Restore from Backup File and select a previously exported
receipts.jsonfile to restore your receipts. - CSV Export: You can also export your expenses to a CSV file to open in Apple Numbers, Microsoft Excel, or send to your accountant.
How do I delete my data or reset the app?
You can delete individual receipts by swiping left on any item or tapping the trash button in receipt details. To remove all data at once, go to Settings → Reset Options → Delete All Receipts. Uninstalling the app also erases all stored records immediately.
